Custom, or 'Serotta Custom'?
In The Field
Custom, or 'Serotta Custom'?
CTS recently established a partnership with renowned bike builder Ben Serotta to put world-class coaches on world-class bicycles. The new bikes have already started rolling in, and if you get the chance to ride with CTS Coaches this season, check out our Serottas. As part of the partnership, we've also asked Serotta for occasional articles about the science and technology behind their bikes.

From fit to finish, a Serotta Custom bicycle is designed and fit for you and you alone. Your bike starts with a Personal Fit by a Serotta-certified Fit Technician (visit www.serotta.com/dealer.html) who gets to know everything about you as a cyclist. Together, you determine the characteristics of the bicycle that will inspire you to perform to your maximum potential.

Materials are selected to provide the stiffness, responsiveness and vertical compliance you desire. Frame geometry is tailored to keep you relaxed and powerful from first pedal stroke to last. Tubing is tuned for optimal performance according to your size, weight and riding style. Paint and finishing touches are just as you want them to be. The result is confidence-inspiring performance coupled with an incomparably smooth and responsive ride.

Coveting Carbon Fiber?
Truly what sets a Serotta carbon fiber bicycle apart, like Serotta’s USA-made custom MeiVici, is Serotta’s industry-leading carbon fiber technology. Bold, light, and stiff as you want it to be, Serotta’s 2008 MeiVici is 100% customizable. Serotta’s evolutionary, rider-specific Torsion Core™, Colorado Concept platform allows Serotta to maximize drive train stiffness without the slightest sacrifice in vertical compliance. MeiVici's unsurpassed ride quality and handling dynamics are the result of nearly a decade of designing, testing and redesigning our multi-modulus lug (MML) construction.

Made in the USA
As part of Serotta’s ongoing vertical integration plan, Serotta acquired a major, full-service composite development and production facility in Jan 2007 - Serotta Composites. This Poway, California-based facility is where Serotta carbon fiber bicycles begin. In-house capabilities include CAD-driven part design, tooling design and fabrication, prototyping, mechanical testing and full scale production of composite tubing and parts. Real world translation: Serotta frame designers can choose tubes from multiple ranges of stiffness and mix and match them based on the customers requirements as established during the fitting. Serotta carbon fiber forks are available in multiple rakes and 3 stiffness levels, the seat stays have 3 different lay-ups, and the chain stays have 2 different lay-ups.

While domestic manufacturing for most bicycle brands is a rarity, Serotta continues to strengthen its “Made in USA” commitment. Both of the company’s facilities, it’s production headquarters in Saratoga Springs and Serotta Composites in Poway California are driven by a personal approach to doing business.
